NEWS

L’Arche Nehalem’s newly formed Community Council met for the first time September 28. This group is composed of representatives from the extended community (Tricia Curley and Rob Hoisington), the assistant teams (Dan Barcia and Sam Moniz) and the community’s leadership team (Susan Mitchell, snjm, Amy Barcia and Seton Orscheln). The Council is charged with helping the community safeguard, and live in accordance with, the mission and mandate of L’Arche Nehalem by offering wisdom and counsel in an advisory capacity to the Leadership Team. Please share with a member of the Council any issues or ideas you’d like to have considered.
Jeff Deeks has transitioned from being a daily-life member of L’Arche to being an active member of Nehalem’s extended community, moving from Nehalem House to his own apartment about a mile away. Jeff loves phone calls and visits. He’d love to keep in touch with other extended community members, as well as those living in our homes. Monica Ranaghan is transitioning from her live-in assistant role at Neahkahnie House October 1. She will become the most recent of over 15 former assistants who have stayed in the Portland area and continue to support and share in the life of our community! We’re grateful for her presence with us this past year.

LIFE IN THE HOMES

An outcome of Marilyn Petruzzelli’s recent Person Centered Planning meeting is to extend Marilyn’s circle of friends by inviting extended community members to consider including Marilyn in activities such as shopping, eating out, bowling, going to the Grotto, visiting persons at a nursing home or retirement center, going out for coffee or yogurt. Marilyn is setting up her own monthly social calendar. Please call her at Nehalem House (503-254-4558) if there is something you’d like to invite Marilyn to do with you.

JOURNEYS

Susan will attend the L'Arche Western U.S. Regional Council Oct. 4-7, and she and Jerry Deas will attend the WUSR Board Presidents Meeting Oct. 7-8 in the Puget Sound area.
Ben Luginbuhl will attend an Exploratory Assistant Retreat Oct. 2-7 at Our Lady of the Prairie Retreat Center in Iowa. The retreat will be facilitated by John Cook, Community Leader in Washington D.C. The focus is on rest, daily life in L'Arche through reflection on the Charter, and more rest!
Lizy Meacham will attend the Team Leader's Circle Formation and Training Program at the Pilgrim Firs Retreat Center October 16-21. This week brings together House Leaders from the United States and Canada for formation in team building, accompanying core members, and living the spirituality of L'Arche.
