All We Want For Christmas Is You!
It’s time to volunteer to help sell Christmas trees again this year! This sale is our major fund- and friend-raiser for the year. We count on you, our beloved volunteers to help make this sale a success. The sale will run from December 2 to 18. We’ll have two lots again this year (Safeway lot at 82^nd and East Burnside, and Value Village lot at NE 44^th and Hancock).

We have new shift hours, which will make for fewer shifts to fill over the course of the sale; they are: 2:30-5:30 p.m. and 5:30-8:30 p.m. on weekdays and 10:00-1:00, 1:00-4:00, and 4:00-7:00 on weekends. ALL WE ASK IS THREE HOURS OF YOUR TIME. Please call (503-251-6901) or email (mail@larche-portland.org) and let us know when you can help. Part-time Office Assistant Needed

Responsibilities include light bookkeeping, clerical duties, and data entry/maintenance. Productive work experience with desktop computing, word processing, and database/ spreadsheet (preferably Excel and Filemaker Pro) is required. The position is 10 hours per week with flexible scheduling. Call Susan or Doug (503-251-6901) for further information.

NEWS

Welcome to our new core member, Erin Wheeler, who is moving into Nehalem House on November 5. She has been spending time in the community getting acquainted with us over the past five months. Erin has an abundance of youthful energy and a warm, friendly spirit. We look forward to getting to know her better and hope she will find many new life-giving relationships in our community.
Welcome to Debbie Noonan, who arrived from Michigan to join the Neahkahnie House Team on October 19. Debbie has been an elementary school teacher for several years and was drawn to L’Arche through reading Henri Nouwen’s books. Welcome, Debbie!

LIFE IN THE HOMES

Lisa Ciranny, who has been our hourly paid respite provider for the past five years at Nehalem, will be transitioning out of her role in mid-November. Lisa will be going back to school and will remain connected as a friend and volunteer. Annie Orscheln, who has been doing spot relief in our homes since January, will move into Lisa’s role. We welcome back former assistant Diane Dunham, who will be filling the spot relief respite position in support of our assistant teams.
Thanks to the Holy Family Parish youth group which is continuing again this year to bring dinner and share the evening with folks at Neahkahnie House each month.
Thanks to the Community Independence Project for their help with the garden at Nehalem House this year. They’ve just completed preparation of the garden for winter and have planted cold-tolerant winter vegetable crops that we’ll be enjoying into the late fall and early winter. This is CIP's Food Program’s first year. They have helped a total of 8 households grow vegetable gardens, and have learned a lot that will help the program next year. They’d love to have more people helping them build strong alliances where people are able to look to one another for support! JOURNEYS

Dan and Amy Barcia will attend the Team Leader’s Circle (TLC) Formation in Vancouver, B.C. November 5-10. Amy is part of the team that plans and facilitates this inter-zone program. Nehalem House assistant Lizy Meacham attended the first session of the TLC in October.
Assistants from Nehalem House (Lizy Meacham, Melissa Bixler, Ben Luginbuhl) and from Neahkahnie House (Sam Moniz and Debbie Noonan) will attend the annual L’Arche US Western Region’s Assistant Enrichment Weekend in Federal Way, Washington, November 11-13.
