Our mission is to create a place to call home for people with developmental disabilities and those who share life with them.

NEWS

• Amy Barcia, who has been Community Coordinator for the past five years, will be taking a two-month leave of absence from her role during the months of February and March. She will be praying and discerning about her vocation and role in L’Arche. She is grateful for the community’s support during this time. Former assistant and, most recently, paid relief respite provider Diane Dunham has been working alongside Amy during January and will be Community Coordinator during the next two months.
• Former assistants Monica Ranaghan and Patty McNally joined the Board in January. We’re grateful for their continued commitment to our community.
• Thank you to Joan Meyerhoff who has joined the board fundraising committee. Joan, a long-time friend and volunteer, works for Multnomah County in the guardianship program.
• Jerry Deas, Marilyn Petruzzelli, and Melissa Bixler will speak to the Kiwanis Club on February 21.
• Maggie Rose, a long-time parishioner and volunteer with Ascension Parish (the L'Arche office was one of Maggie's classrooms when she was a schoolgirl!) has been hired as part-time office assistant. Welcome, Maggie!

 

LIFE IN THE HOMES

• Welcome to Emily Hershberger, who stepped into the paid relief respite position in January. She is a 2005 graduate of Goshen College, Indiana, who was introduced to us by Nehalem assistant Ben Luginbuhl, her college classmate.
• Annie Orscheln has moved into the full-time paid respite care position, replacing Lisa Ciranny. We so appreciate everyone's flexibility in serving L'Arche!
• Erin Wheeler, Adam Richards, Melissa and her friend Jacob attended a winning Portland Trail Blazers game in January.
• Lizy Meacham, Melissa, Adam, and Erin enjoyed a step dance performance at Reed College. Ask Adam to show you his new dance steps!

JOURNEYS

• February 10-12, Joni Smith and Robyn Dowell, accompanied by Dan Barcia and Diane, will travel to Federal Way, Washington for the L'Arche Western Region Core Member Retreat. The theme of this year’s retreat is "Encountering the Holy".
• Ben and Marilyn will represent L’Arche Nehalem at the Seattle L’Arche community’s 30^th Anniversary celebration on February 18.
