Our mission is to create a place to call home for people with developmental disabilities and those who share life with them.

Uncle Paddy Wants You For The Shamrock Run! Make new friends, connect with old ones, wake up some birds and join us Sunday, March 12 from 6:00 to 10:00 a.m. in Waterfront Park to help with the Shamrock Run. We need 25 people to volunteer, and L'Arche will receive $15 per person. We'll be working as course marshals, and after the race, we'll meet up for free T-shirts and clam chowder. It's a great time, so please join us! Call Sam Moniz (503-251-6940) to sign up.

NEWS

• L'Arche Nehalem's Community Council held its fourth meeting on February 15. Members are Susan Mitchell, Amy Barcia and Diane Dunham (Leadership Team), Dan Barcia and Sam (assistants), and Tricia Curley and Rob Hoisington (extended community members). The Council helps our community safeguard and live in accordance with the mission of L’Arche Nehalem by offering advice and wisdom to the Community Leader and leadership team. It is a vehicle for assistants and extended community members to give input on the pulse of the community and to voice their concerns. We have started by addressing the 2005-9 community mandate goal to "enter into a community process of open dialogue to discern and name our spiritual identity."
• Jean McQuiggin’s mother, Rose, passed away February 14. Please keep the McQuiggin family in your prayers.
• Thank you to Matt Weisensee, Doug Westberg, Paul Lipscomb, Monica Ranaghan, Patrick Wheeler, and Melissa Bixler for their service on L’Arche Nehalem’s Fund Development Plan Task Force. The Task Force that has been meeting with our development consultant, Sharon Bosserman-Benson, since November and has completed its mandate to develop a three-year Fund Development Plan to help ensure our community’s future financial viability. Watch for updates on how you can be involved in helping us implement this plan!

LIFE IN THE HOMES

• Cindy Leonard went to Jimmy Mak's last Monday with Carol Holden and Doug to catch jazz guitarist Dan Balmer's group Go By Train. Cindy bought one of Dan's CDs and got it autographed!

JOURNEYS

• Marilyn Petruzzelli and Ben Luginbuhl drove to Seattle February 18-19 to help celebrate the Seattle L’Arche community’s 30th anniversary. They enjoyed a concert by John Coleman of L'Arche Australia and visited with friends old and new from L’Arche communities in our region.
• Joni Smith and Robyn Dowell attended the Core Member Retreat February 10-12 in Federal Way, Washington, accompanied by Dan and Diane. They spent time with friends from L’Arche communities in Tacoma, Seattle, Spokane, and Orange County, CA. Some highlights of the weekend were music by John and Kris Coleman, a talent show, a play, and the making of sacred story books.
• Melissa and Erin Wheeler will join the Tacoma L’Arche community for Tacoma’s annual Lenten retreat at the Trappist Abbey in Lafayette, Oregon, March 6-9.
• Susan will be attending the L’Arche US Western Regional Council March 27-31. This semi-annual meeting for Community Leaders in our region is being held at a retreat center near the newly opened L’Arche community in California. The Council members will be joining L’Arche Wavecrest for their weekly community night while there.
