NEWS
Jeff Deeks has completed a year-long discernment process and decided to live more independently while continuing to share in the life of L'Arche Nehalem as an extended community member. His sister, Ellen Dimm, is helping Jeff find a housemate and develop supports for living in a house or apartment.
Jeff's upcoming move (targeted for September, 2005) will create an opening for a new core member at Nehalem House. If you know anyone who might want to explore the possibility of becoming a core member in our community have them contact Susan Mitchell (503-251-6901).
L'Arche Nehalem is in the process of instituting a Community Council to offer wisdom and counsel in an advisory capacity to the Leadership Team concerning community issues, decisions, and long-range planning. The Council will comprise the Community Leader, Community Coordinator(s), two assistants, and two extended community members. It will meet every other month on the second Wednesday. Extended community member terms are for one year, renewable for up to three consecutive years. Qualities of Council members include: commitment to the mission of L'Arche, ability to reflect upon the meaning of situations from the perspective of faith, and concern for the common good of the community. If you feel called to consider serving the community in this capacity, call Susan for more information (503-251-6901).
Thank you to Justin Wilcox who left his role as live-in assistant at Nehalem House at the end of May. We are grateful for his presence with us this past year. Justin will continue to live in Portland and stay involved as a supporting member of L'Arche Nehalem.
A special birthday wish to John Hartwell on his 50th birthday June 7. Blessings in abundance!!
Jeff Deeks will be performing in PHAME Academy's production of "TITANIC" at PCC Sylvania June 25 (7:00 p.m.) and June 26 (2:00 p.m.). Plan to attend one of the performances if you can!
We still have a couple of beautiful handmade pottery L'Arche mugs for sale ($16 each) to benefit L'Arche US Western Region. They make great gifts! Call the L'Arche office (503-251-6901) to reserve your mug.

Whatever their gifts or their limitations, people are all bound together in a common humanity. Everyone is of unique and sacred value, and everyone has the same dignity and the same rights. The fundamental rights of each person include the right to life, to care, to a home, to education and to work.
Also, since the deepest need of a human being is to love and to be loved, each person has a right to friendship, to communion and to a spiritual life.
If human beings are to develop their abilities and talents to the full, realizing all their potential as individuals, they need an environment that fosters personal growth. They need to form relationships with others within families and communities. They need to live in an atmosphere of trust, security and mutual affection. They need to be valued, accepted and supported in real and warm relationships.
