Our mission is to create a place to call home

for people with developmental disabilities and those who share life with them.

Wed., June 18, 7:00 p.m.
Neahkahnie House
L’Arche Western USA communities will join together for our annual Regional Gathering in Tacoma, Wash., June 20-23rd.  A highlight is sure to be hearing L’Arche founder Jean Vanier, who will be with us for the weekend.

Ì    Folks from both houses took time on Thursday, May 22nd to attend an Open House at the new L’Arche USA office, which is located right here in downtown Portland.  Robyn Dowell and Rodney Gabriel donated some of their artwork to grace their space.

Ì    Prayer Night on Wednesday, June 18th, will be focused on the upcoming General Assembly of all the L’Arche communities around the world, to be held in Calcutta, India, in October 2008.  Join us at 7:00 p.m. at Neahkahnie House to learn more.

LIFE IN THE HOMES

H   Adam Richards visited his brother Ryan in Astoria with his mom, Kathy, and grandpa, “Pa Frank,” over Memorial Day weekend.

H   Erin Wheeler took a trip to the Oregon Zoo with her sister, Shannon.

H   Marilyn Petruzzelli is volunteering twice a week now at Albertina Kerr Center.  Thank you to Stephanie Bolson, volunteer coordinator at the Kerr Center, for helping Marilyn find meaningful ways to volunteer in the community.

H   Marilyn enjoyed a retreat day for SNJM Associate members at Marylhurst on May 24th, with Susan Mitchell.

THANK YOU

©   We had a crew of volunteers from Key Bank working at Nehalem House in May, and they accomplished a tremendous amount of yard work. We are grateful!

©   Our appreciation goes out to Diane Frank, who donated a 6 quart slow cooker (filled with a delicious dinner entrée!) to Nehalem House.

©   Hurray for David and Victoria Mendenhall, who donated the use of their moving truck for the Montavilla Neighborhood Clean-up Day.  We filled it!  Kudos to Adam, Susan, Dan Barcia, John Gallagher, and Ben Luginbuhl for hauling tons of items out of our homes and over to the drop-off site.

©   Jerry Deas for bike licenses.

©   Victoria & Richard Corbett for leading our Taizé Prayer Night.
