NEWS

• Amy Barcia has graduated from Marylhurst University with a Master's in Applied Theology after 4 years of dedicated studies. Susan Mitchell, Marilyn Petruzzelli, and Ben Miller came to the Master's Hooding Ceremony to celebrate with Amy and her family on June 16.
• Meredith Zubel moved into Neahkahnie House in June as our newest assistant. She is a graduate of the University of Indianapolis.
• Anne Orscheln will be in Missouri for part of this summer, preparing for her marriage to Tyson Hunt on August 26. Congratulations, Anne and Tyson! Heather Bixler, Melissa Bixler's sister, will fill the full-time respite position at Nehalem House during Anne's absence.
• After 4 years of sharing life at Neahkahnie House, Dan and Amy Barcia will transition to their own living space beginning July 1st. They have rented a small house on 78th and Salmon, and look forward to being in the neighborhood and participating fully in community life in a new way. Dan will continue as a live-out member of the assistant team at Neahkahnie House, and Amy will remain in her role as Community Coordinator through the summer.

LIFE IN THE HOMES

• Robyn Dowell, Adam Richards, and Melissa visited the Rose Festival’s Waterfront Village on June 9.
• Nicole Hancock, summer assistant at Nehalem House, and her friends from the University of Portland watched the Starlight Parade with Adam after volunteering at the Starlight Run.
• On June 19th, six local high school students pulled many weeds at Nehalem House and visited with each of the core members. The students spent the week learning about social justice issues and homelessness in Portland as participants in the annual Portland Plunge.
• Adam and the community will celebrate his 33rd birthday at his parents’ house on July 15.
• On July 23, we will host a barbecue for the L’Arche Spokane community’s visit to Portland.

• We love to have more folks share in our community life. Do you have any time to help with yard work or housecleaning or cooking? Building relationships through sharing the activities of daily life is at the heart of our mission. Call Community Coordinator Diane Dunham (503-251-6901) if you can help.
• We could also really use some help in the office with things like filing and stuffing. Call Doug Westberg (same number) if you can spare a couple hours. He’ll be really grateful!
• Thanks to all who generously contributed their time to help us reach our goal of 20 volunteers at the Starlight Run on June 3!
• Thank you to the Holy Names Sisters who donated two twin beds for Neahkahnie House.
• Thanks to the family of former assistant Anna Koza for the basketball hoop at Nehalem House. Adam’s underhand set shot (a la Rick Barry) is getting downright phenomenal!
