SEPTEMBER 2006
Our mission is to create a place to call home
for people with developmental disabilities and those who
share life with them.
We
are people with and without developmental disabilities sharing life in
communities of faith. Mutual
relationships and trust in God are at the heart of our life together. We seek to build a world that recognizes the
unique value of every person and our need for one another.
This statement is the fruit of L’Arche International’s three year reflection process involving L’Arche communities throughout the world, including L’Arche Nehalem. It articulates the unifying values at the heart of L’Arche that find unique expression in each culture and community.
Please
join members of L’Arche Nehalem’s extended community to reflect on the values
contained in this statement and how we can integrate them into our lives. We’ll
gather on Saturday, September 30, 1-3 p.m. in the L’Arche Nehalem office (in
school building of Ascension Parish, SE 76th between Alder and
Morrison).
RSVP: Please let Susan Mitchell know if you can come: susan@larche-portland.org (503-251-6901)
SAVE THIS DATE:
Saturday, Oct. 21 9:30 a.m – 3:00 p.m.
Join our Board of Directors at their annual retreat. The goal of the day is to energize members of L’Arche Nehalem community to help implement our newly created fund development plan. We want to ensure L’Arche Nehalem’s long-term financial viability so our community will continue far into the future. Sr. Guadalupe Guajardo from TACS (Technical Assistance for Community Services) will facilitate the day. We need as many people as possible to get involved in our outreach and fundraising efforts.

We
are being called to open our hearts to those who are marginalized because of
their poverty, because of their disabilities, and to be their friend. To make that move from generosity to
communion of hearts will imply a new way of living. It will imply a transformation because we
will have lost power. Jean Vanier: Encountering
