Kelsey served as a live-out assistant at Nehalem House since July. Originally from Des Moines, IA, Kelsey holds a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University. She has experience both working with youth and providing pastoral care, including leading a small non-profit La Estrella Resplandeciente, which served Hispanic kids in North Carolina, being a resident assistant at Duke, and leading worship and adult/youth bible studies with Eastern Carolina District Mennonite Churches. Kelsey is fluent in Spanish, has experience in public speaking, pastoral care, and improving organizational processes. Above all, Kelsey possesses a deeply compassionate spirit which shines through with everyone who meets her. L'Arche Portland is excited to welcome Kelsey into this role as Community Coordinator, a position that bridges support in our homes with outreach in the wider community.
Here's a note from Kelsey:
"In my first few months with L’Arche Portland, I have learned how to finagle a wheel chair and a walker into the tiny trunk of a minivan, administer important medications, and sit in silence next to new friends for much longer than I ever imagined comfortable. It is through simple habits and practices such as these that a community is brought into life and fellowship together. It is my hope that in the role of Community Coordinator, I will continue to participate in and enliven these practices while also bringing others outside our immediate community into the daily rhythms of L’Arche in order that others might experience the simple beauty of the community that I am so grateful to be a part of."
