Monica Ranaghan and Sara Sawicki recently made the decision to leave a legacy gift to L'Arche Portland. They shared with us how they came to this decision and why.

What inspired you to become a donor to L'Arche Portland?

Monica became a monthly donor soon after leaving her roll as an assistant. We both decided we wanted to give more as our means increased, and we love being able to have such a big impact on this community.

When you think of L'Arche Portland, what key words or phrases come to mind?

Community. Sharing Gifts. Spiritual Home.

What aspect of L'Arche Portland's mission gives you the most satisfaction?

Revealing the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities and living into authentic mutual relationships.

What was the single most important consideration in your decision to make a legacy gift to L'Arche Portland?

We are currently committed to giving to L'Arche in our financial planning and from our heart, so it just made sense to us to continue that in our future giving and beyond.

Is there an important moment, person, or special occasion at L'Arche Portland that influenced your decision?

Monica, being a former assistant and board member, has seen the impact a legacy gift can make in both sustaining the community and creating room for growth. We both would like to see L'Arche continue to grow and be available to future generations.

What prompted you to make a legacy gift at this particular time?

We were already doing estate planning and chose to include L'Arche.

What outcome do you hope your gift will help achieve for L'Arche Portland?

We hope it provides security for the future and inspiration and encouragement to others to do the same.
