Learn about the L'Arche model of creating home and building community while exploring issues such as welcome, belonging, nurturing mutual relationships, cooperation and vulnerability.
L'Arche Portland community members (both with and without intellectual disabilities) are available to engage with your school, house of worship, or community group. Assistants, core members, volunteers and staff are eager to tell our stories and to help start conversations about what becoming "truly human" means for our world today. How can we live more fully in community and accept and value our differences? How can we show love and compassion through daily routine? By serving others, how do we examine and accept our own brokenness and vulnerability? How can we live and work in better cooperation with one another?
Let us visit your group to lead dialogue around topics that we've learned about through almost 30 years of communal life, including Welcoming the Stranger, The Power of Vulnerability and Cooperation in Community, and Creating Home and Building Community. We have experience speaking to school groups (for example at LaSalle Catholic Preparatory, Central Catholic and Jesuit High Schools), as well as to adult academic and service-based gatherings ("Becoming Human" with the University of Portland's Moreau Center, church formation groups etc.)
If you are interested in how we can work collaboratively to bring about a more peaceful and just world, we would love to visit with you and learn from one another. For more information, please email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 503-251-6901.
