Apply Now: Resident Assistant (RA)

As a live-in house member at L’Arche Portland’s Gabriel House in Beaverton, the Resident Assistant (RA) is the point person for house activities, relational support, and other on-site needs. Gabriel House is a L’Arche Portland home where adults with and without intellectual disabilities share life together. However, this model is different from our other two homes because housemates do not provide professional (DSP) support to one another. Rather, they live together as housemates and friends, who may or may not hire their own professional (DSP) supports. The RA reports to the Director of Member Development & Learning.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and support community-building activities for the household

  • Support relationship building among house members

  • Model positive & appropriate natural (unpaid) supports (ex: chores & cleanliness, communication, activities, errands, and outings together)

  • Empower house members to lead house activities and take on responsibilities in the home

  • Work with the Director of Member Development & Learning on overall operations of the home, including house repair & maintenance needs, and emergency preparedness

  • Meet weekly with Director of Member Development & Learning for coordination & support needs 

  • Be on-site and available to house members about 5 "office hours" per week, specific hours to be agreed upon 

  • Act as on-site point person in case of emergency 

  • Attend weekly House Night most weeks & eventually take on shared leadership / facilitation of this time and space

Requirements:

  • Embraces the mission and values of L’Arche

  • Live at Gabriel House

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Current driver’s license

  • At least 18 years of age

  • Criminal record check (completed as part of the application process)

  • Current Basic First Aid and Adult CPR certification (completed as part of the orientation process)

Benefits:

  • Program & Residential fee is waived (includes room, utilities, and L’Arche Portland program supports).

    • RA is responsible for their personal food

  • Weekly Hours: 5-6 hrs/week
