Hi *{{Informal Name}}*,
This season has reminded us of the importance of leaning into community. With ongoing changes to Medicaid and the challenges those cuts create, now more than ever it matters that we gather, share time, and support one another in ways both big and small. At L’Arche Portland, people with and without intellectual disabilities create home together, and through that daily life we discover what is possible when we show up for each other.
As you read these updates, we invite you to hold close the truth that we are in this together. Your presence, your care, and your support help us remain a place of belonging through times of uncertainty. Thank you. |

Nehalem House is in Good Hands! |
Nehalem House has officially been sold! This home was at the center of our community from the very beginning and was home to many of our core members and live-in assistants over the years. It will always hold a special place in our hearts. |
| |
We are filled with excitement knowing that its story is not ending here. One of our own board members has purchased the house and is beginning an intentional community in the space. We are overjoyed that Nehalem House will continue to provide warmth, belonging, and connection, just as it did for L’Arche Portland for so many years. It is the end of a chapter for us, and the beginning of something beautiful and new. |

A Brighter Home at Neahkahnie House!
Recently, Neahkahnie House received a major update thanks to the generosity of our partners and friends. Cochran Portland donated labor, materials, and permitting valued around $12,000 to make the project possible. CED Portland provided lighting parts and fixtures totaling almost $2,000, and a generous family member gave all of the fans throughout the house - a gift of about $800.
Together, these contributions created a safer and brighter home for everyone who lives and works at Neahkahnie House. We are truly blown away by the generosity that made this project a reality. |

Goodbyes and New Beginnings
This summer we said goodbye to our wonderful VIA volunteers from Germany, Jasmina and Petja. Both brought so much light and energy into daily life. They lived at Gabriel House in Beaverton, served at Neahkahnie House in Southeast Portland, and were present at nearly every gathering and event. Their warmth and dedication touched every corner of our community, and we will miss them deeply. |
| |
The season also brought us summer interns who gave their time to plan meaningful trips, summer outings, and daily moments of joy with the core members. Their willingness to share life with us has been a true gift, and we are grateful for the many ways they made this summer special. |
As we say goodbye to Jasmina and Petja, we also have the privilege of welcoming a new VIA volunteer from Germany, Leander. Already he has brought a positive presence into daily life at the houses, and we are excited to discover what the year ahead will hold with him. When you see him at gatherings or around the houses, please join us in offering him a warm welcome into our community. |

Gabriel House Welcomed a New House Member! |
Gabriel House has welcomed a new member. Em has recently moved in, and we could not be more excited to share life with them. They enjoy making prayer beads and writing poetry, and love spending time at Mount Hood Kiwanis and Upward Bound camps. Between weeks at summer camps, Em has been settling into their new space at Gabriel House. We are so glad to welcome them into the community at L’Arche Portland. |

Gratitude and an Invitation to Give |
St. Michael & All Angels Episcopal Church has generously supported our kitchen renovation with a $10,000 gift! This donation will cover countertops and repair long-term sink damage. We are deeply grateful for the congregation’s generosity and the impact they are making in our home and community. |
| |
| The full project will cost $75,000. Can you, like St. Michael’s, contribute to making this renovation a reality? Your support will help transform the kitchen at Neahkahnie House, bringing new life to the heart of our home.
