Assistants live outside of our homes and work with the other Assistants and the Leadership Team to create and support community life in our homes. As an essential part of our mission, you will provide direct caregiving support while building meaningful relationships that honor the dignity and gifts of adults with intellectual disabilities. About the Role

As a Care Assistant at L’Arche, you will support core members (individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities) in their daily lives. Your responsibilities will include a wide range of tasks, such as assisting with personal care, preparing meals, providing transportation, managing medical appointments, and supporting core members in achieving their personal goals. 

Whether you work full-time or part-time, your role will involve a combination of direct care, community engagement, and household management. You will help create an environment of mutual respect and collaboration, building meaningful relationships with the individuals you support and your fellow team members.

Key Responsibilities

  • Direct Care and Support: Assist core members with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, and meal preparation. Provide support for mobility and transportation, assist with managing finances, and accompany individuals to medical appointments.
  • Community Engagement: Foster a home environment where everyone participates in daily activities, celebrates milestones, and enjoys time together. Help organize and participate in community celebrations, outings, and other events.
  • Household Management: Contribute to the maintenance of the home, including tasks such as grocery shopping, cleaning, and property upkeep. Share responsibility for managing household routines and finances.
  • Training and Development: Receive comprehensive training on supporting individuals with intellectual disabilities, including skills in personal care, behavior support, and documentation. Participate in additional ongoing professional development opportunities such as leadership formation and mentorship.

  • You are dependable, trustworthy, and emotionally resilient, with the capacity to navigate the challenges and rewards of care work.
  • A commitment to a minimum of one year is preferred, as consistency and long-term relationships are central to the success of the work we do. 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Desire to work with individuals with intellectual disabilities and contribute to an inclusive, supportive community
  • Ability to physically perform direct care duties, including lifting and assisting individuals as needed
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check and a drug-free policy
  • High school diploma or equivalent (college education preferred)
  • Valid driver’s license and the ability to comfortably drive in the city (preferred)
  • Proficiency in English (Spanish proficiency is a plus)
